Dinara Wagner, née Dordzhieva, was born in Elista, capital of Kalmykia. During her childhood, she won the Russian Junior Chess Championships for girls five times, and in 2016 she came in third at the World Girls Junior Championship.
Since 2014, she has held the title of Woman International Master. She was the best female player at the 2019 European Rapid Chess Championships, and in 2020 she achieved the title of Woman Grandmaster.
At the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Wagner studied the world economy, graduating in 2020 with a bachelor's degree. She then moved to Heidelberg and started a master's degree in economics at the Ruprecht-Karls University. In 2022, she married fellow chess player Dennis Wagner, and she represents the German Chess Federation since May this year.
She was off to a great start in her country of adoption, winning the German Masters (Darmstadt, April 2022) in her very first participation. More recently, Dinara defended Germany’s third board at the Chess Olympiad, playing all 11 games and scoring 6½ points.
